One thing I always do is run a ground wire from the frame of the trailer to the frame of the truck. After it is fastened to both units, I cut it and put a quick attach coupling of some kind in the wire so it is easily disconnected. The grease on the trailer ball will make it not have a good ground. I never have dim lights due to bad ground.
