My pride and joy is a 1998 4x4, that had the same thing happen to it the first week of November 2001. Dealer said don't bother going to GM, it happens a lot and they don't cover it outta warranty. He was right, they don't. The gasket is $120 and that is a piece of crap, the old paper gaskets used to work just fine. The reason it was at the dealer is because it has cold engine knock (piston slap) which lasts until the engine goes a mile. GM says this is also normal if it goes away in less than 5 minutes. Also check your front brake rotors, mine were composite, which had pits the size of nickels. Oh, brake rotors are not covered either. Iffin I had the time I would start a class action suit, any takers?
