A diesel motor is good till you can't get it started even if you pull it! I had a little Mazda diesel pickup. It never did use hardly any oil. I drove it till I finally couldn't even get it started whe it was 90 degrees outside, even with ether! I believe it had around 400,000 on it. Big trucks sometimes will last a million miles, but they are geared low and the motor doesn't turn over as many revolutions per mile as a gas engine. They may have harder cylinders too.
