When I was about 5 or 6 I jumped off a trailer and stuck a nail all the way through my foot. My mama and grandma cleaned it up and soaked it in kerosene a couple of times and I never went to the doctor. When I would get a risin occasionally Mama would tape a piece of fatback on it. It would draw the core out of it. They used home remedies first before using a Dr. If we have chest congestion my wife will make a mustard plaster and put on my chest and on my back. I will usually be better after that. Sometimes for bad cold or flu symptoms, she will slice an onion and put it in a bowl by the bed. That seems to help most of the time. She learned all tha from her Grandma when she was growing up.
