I had the old tires peeled off the front rims on the Satoh I'm refurbishing. They had sat with flat tires (flat enough to break the bead) out in the weather for years.
They're solid enough to reuse, but need to be cleaned up to keep from chafing the tube.
I plan to use a needle scaler for the big chunks, wire brush them, and soak them in the electrolysis bath for a few days. Also plan to use a rim strap in the deepest part of the rim like they do on spoked motorcycle rims. They're in the bath now while I wait for my needle scaler to arrive. Figured it couldn't hurt.
What I'm looking for is advice on better ways (if any) to clean the rust off them and more importantly, a way to smooth them up and at least somewhat fill the inevitable pits. First thought is some sort of epoxy paint.

Jon's Allis has a small front loader and though it doesn't carry much, it serves his needs. It was the hard starting and low power that made him think it was time to replace the old girl. Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
