Bought a 1957 Ford 640 from my brother in law who swore everything worked. I didn't need it at the time so it's been sitting for a couple months. At any rate, I decided to check it out. After changing the fuel tank shut off valve, rebuilding the carb, installing a new sight glass, PTO seal, repairing the wiring, patching the radiator, etc,etc,etc,etc. Now NO hydraulics. Changed all fluids. Verified pump is turning. Installed 90° barbed fitting front port on pump. Installed clear hose routed back to hydraulic reservoir. Started tractor and had instant flow without bubbles. Put my finger over the hose and it seemed to have some pressure. Installed a gauge in the pump and metering plate on the lift plate. Zero pressure. No change with the DC lever. Removed the filler cap and no fluid leaking around the piston. My question is: could the pump still be good and the problem be the unloader valve? Relief valve? If the pump doesn't have any resistance it probably won't show any pressure. But where is it going?
