Yes it is a crap shoot with after market parts. Buttttt with an after market switch I recently bought for my Ford 3000 costing $6 and some change vs OEM 10x, and a reasonable amount of application information, I won the toss "this time".....
Hear you on "THE SECOND TIME" thing. The glass is half full. At least you knew your way around the second time, the process went a lot faster, you taught yourself to test before closure, and you didn't have to wonder if you missed something getting it all back together due to oversight/lack of experience with the task.
