Purchased a new manifold. The old one was shot. Replaced head gasket. Fixed a stuck valve by remove and cleaning. Did all eight valves while I was I there. Put it all back together couldn't get it to run. Unnoticed two littles holes in manifold above the left carb but. Did not notice these on old one. Had a little gas leaking out of the front hole. Tried turning it over, but it sounded like it was sucking air somewhere. Upon further inspection I found two bolt holes on the inner two exhasut valves ( I noticed because of the sooty black stuff sprayed all over side of engine). Didn't have the correct three bolts. 3/8 corse and it must be 3/8 fine. Stuck them in the two holes just enough to plug the holes and she started right up. Why would these holes be in there? I need to go get the proper two bolts. Let it run for about 30 minutes, took valve cover off, rocket arm off and tighten all head bolts while to 90 foot pounds. Put all back together. Started right up. Had tiny leak in bottom radiator hose. Tighten the band and seems to be good. Just curious as to what the holes are for in the manifold?

Jon's Allis has a small front loader and though it doesn't carry much, it serves his needs. It was the hard starting and low power that made him think it was time to replace the old girl. Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
