I have had amazing luck with Timberland Pro Series socks. I wear socks out like its my job, because it is. I hike 3-5 miles a day for a living and I can attest that they stand up. I've had 3 pairs and I wear them every week and they have yet to wear out at all. I think something like $6 a pair. I got a three pack for $18. They are available from amazon.
