: Hi, : I have a question concerning this tractor. I recently changed the hydraulic and transmission fluid and applied SLIGHT air pressure to the dipstick opening to move fluid up to the pump to prime it. It wouldn't prime otherwise. The repair shop suggested this to me but said not to apply too much pressure or I could blow out a seal. I was very careful and applied less than five psi -- only enough to start the fluid moving. Now I have fluid leaking from under the transmission and the hydraulic unit. I may have over filled it by less than a quart or so -- just a little over the full mark on the dipstick. I also noticed that the fluid was dripping from what appears to be cotter keys protruding from the bottoms of the transmission and hydraulic cases. It appears that these cotter keys were inserted from the inside and were bent over on the outside. What are these? Any suggestions on the source of the leaks? : Thanks in advance, : Scott Scott The oil dripping from the cotter key is coming from your front transmission seal. You see the clutch housing is after your engine and then your tranmission comes after that. When you applied the air pressure to the hydraulic system you may have blown the seal which is now coming out the clutch housing area. It alright to remove the plug with the cotter key in it to verify this because the cotter key is there only to keep the hole from plugging up with dirt and not able to drain the oil if there is a leak. That would in turn let the oil build up and destroy the clutch. So it does need the cotter key. The tractor will need split to repair the damaged and leaking seal, take it to a good shop and have it repaired soon.
