Most states, cities, towns and counties have online tourism sites. If you let them know when and where you will be visiting, they will happily send you information about all the events, points of interest, restaurants and lodging in the area. Many let you check off what you interests are to narrow down the list. At a minimum they are a good source for free maps. Try to get an up-to-date road map for each state you will be spending time in.
