I feel lucky to be connected to a local REC that is very proactive about line upgrades. We havent been out of power for an extended period since an ice storm in 1982. In this area we do have quite a few livestock confinement sites that are heavily reliant on electricity and that is good incentive to keep the power supply reliable. I have never owned a generator but i have looked at getting one. I have the double throw switch installed, all i need is a power cord and generator to complete the setup. I dont have livestock, i don't need electricity to heat the house and my water comes from the acreage across the road where my son lives and he does have a generator.
