At the risk of boring you, I have a little more about maple sap and Syrup. A few years ago I put together a display for our local historical society with pictures of some of the local sap houses past and present and a sample of some of the spiles used for tapping trees in the good old days. Sifting thru the buckets full of spiles used by my Dad and my wife's Granddad, I came up with 10 distinctly different spiles. Makes you wonder just how many styles have been manufactured over the years. The long wooden one is very old and was donated by one of our members. I can remember wooden ones my Dad used but they were shorter and had a hole rather than a trough. I couldn't find any of those unfortunately. I believe they were made of "whistle wood" (striped maple). To keep this tractor related, my Dad used his Allis B and a little trailer with milk cans for collecting; small operation. My wife's Granddad used a little Ford 2N with a trailer and a regular gathering tank. He also had a tank on the back of a '42 Ford 2 ton truck as he had a lot of roadside taps. I worked for him for years as a kid; long before I had any designs on his granddaughter. LOL

Following seven years working in California's Silicon Valley, my wife, baby son and I moved back to Australia to retire. We bought a small 'farm' of about 50 acres near Bendigo, in the state of Victoria. I soon found that it would be very useful to have a tractor around the place for things such as grading our long drive and brush-hogging the fields. I was also embarking on planting 1000 eucalyptus trees, and hence I would need a ripper, small disk plow, sprayer etc. to get these things accompli
