ON AVERAGE, Exide batteries have more problems than Johnson or Deka. I know I've opened up a can of worms with that statement and I'm sure I'm going to get the "I've had a hundred Exide batteries and they've all been good" statements. So be it. I actually have two Exide batteries in a couple of my vehicles right now because it's hard to turn them down when they are on sale for $75 or less at Menards and the same size is way over $100 at even the discount chains. Exide is reemerging out of bankruptcy, so maybe they are cutting corners even more than they used to. I do know that they seem to be messier and have more corrosion as compared to other brands, but I can live with that.
