After suffering with dialup for many years, I bought an AT&T 3G USB modem stick and used it for about three years. For the most part service was good although it would sometimes drop calls.
Then my wife bought a tablet so we needed Wifi. I bought a "Mifi" router from Sprint. It worked OK, but the service was terribly slow. Much worse than AT&T.
I was then tipped off by LJD about Millenicom. They resell cellular broadband from other service providers, including Verizon. They have several plans and service varies by region. Here in SE Michigan, I was able to get 3G service on Verizon's network through Millenicom. 60 bucks a month with a 20 GB monthly cap. Verizon sells the same service for the same price but with a 5 GB cap. They don't seem to offer that plan any longer; their current plans are 70 or 80 $/month. I have been very happy with my service. The Verizon 3G service seems to be a bit slower than AT&T but the connection is more reliable.

Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
