We run two Farmhand grinder-mixers. Both are over 45 years old and going strong. We used to grind 2-3 loads of shell corn/oats per week when we still farrowed and fed hogs, plus at least a load of ground earn corn for the cattle. We still grind the ear corn. Those go through a coarse screen. We still grind an occasional load of shell corn/oats through the fine screen for chicken feed. We run it with an Allis-Chalmers D-17, which handles it fine except the oats through the fine screen. Oats must be tough-we have to go slow, but don't do enough to make it a bother. If you are asking about standard maintenance/repairs like bearings, gears, roller chains, hammers, etc., then you won"t have any real trouble. Screens can be tougher, but if you have intact screens with the grinder, you won"t have to worry about it for a while. Sheet metal, framework, and augers are all repairable, but the mixer auger in the center of the tub is a real barrel of monkeys. Castings-JDSeller is right, good luck, but ours haven"t been an issue. Good, but aging, machines that are no longer made. Durable and fixable.

Jon's Allis has a small front loader and though it doesn't carry much, it serves his needs. It was the hard starting and low power that made him think it was time to replace the old girl. Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
