Cummins offers them as an option on their 4-cylinder engines. It cuts vibration drastically, which is important for operator comfort. Dodge Colt autos back in the early 80's used them also. Allis Chalmers tried to build the 180 series with 4-cylinder 226 engines turned up to around 2200 RPM. The only one that was tolerable was the prototype; when they got into production the vibration was too great. They stopped the production line and went to the 6-cylinder engine.
