worked for the gov several years now, whoever it is thats overpaid is not at this place. IN fact weve lost a lot of folks to better paying positions outside the gov. niece just went to work here as secretary,$10 a hour.really getting rich quick at those wages huh.ive been here almost twenty years,in a lab that originally employeed 5 people.im doing the same work as all 5 and making less than 60K.lets see,5 people at 40K or one at 58K ,, wheres the waste exactly? I have no retirement, except a 401K.buy my own health insurance like everyone else.have to pay for my own life insurance, most of my own tools. get the same days off as most of the country, get paid no overtime regardless of the hours worked, get thirty minutes for lunch just like most folks. maybe your talking about those folks supposedly double or tripple dipping as they say, lets see what they have done.most are exmilitary (retired with full service) ex gov (retired with full service)are now contractors ( who make LESS money than a civilian engineer would make his first day at work). so this guy has put in 50-60 continuous years on the job, probably designed or helped to design the equipment he works on,is one of the very few folks who have EVER worked on it. contracting companies and foreign govs actively seek him for employment because he is one of the handfull of SPECIALISTS in the world who works on these systems. Oddly enough, colledge interns dont usualy take full time employment here, though we have probably fifty every summer. they can be paid far more in the private sector than here.and since benifits were cut several years ago, incentives are just not there any more.
