Two things about WWII warbirds in general they took a heck of a lot of maintenance to keep them flying and at various times the ground crews weren't that busy because a lot of the birds made one way trips. You're dealing with a mid 80's Jaguar don't judge all British engineering by that unit, by the time it was hatched the unions had as much to say about the design and engineering as the actual engineers. This is one of the reasons that lead to the downfall of the British auto industry. The folks that designed and built your car were more worried about keeping jobs and plants open and not making any concessions that might weaken the franchise or allow it to be merged or absorbed then the actual product. This was about the same time an English firm bought the company to save it from being purchased by GM, and then they turned around and sold it to Ford. Word I heard is after Ford really got into Jaguar they were beginning to wish they'd bought something else instead like Skoda, Tatra, Dacia, Trabant, Wartburg, Pollenez or maybe even Zastiva, seems the eastern bloc communist car factories were more up to date and less steeped in tradition than Jaguar and would of been easier to turn around.
