The logic of beef anymore has been corrupted, the big factory feedlots out west use a lot of grain to push beef through their lot in minimal time. In years past the largest manufacturer of Corn Flakes was a feed lot in Colorado, see cows gain weight faster on corn flakes. The fact that cows and other ruminants expel methane gas which the environmental wacko-cuckoos have declared a public nuisance may be the driving factor on their assult. They don't want to deal with the fact if we don't feed the bio-matter to an animal when it rots it very well might give off- that's right methane. It would seem to me that this encouragement from the USDA for folks NOT to eat meat flies in the face of their charter to promote and regulate agriculture. I would encourage everyone on this site to write/call their congress man and ask WTF? I have always looked at ruminants as a way for use to produce high quality food stuffs from land of marginal value that would otherwise be destroyed if we tried to raise cereal grains on it.
