Just sold my calf crop at Cleburne auction yesterday in No Cen TX. Sold 5 bull calves and 5 heifer calves. Wanted to hold heifers, but last years bad drought and high hay prices turned off my plans. The table below tells the story. Cows are full blood Angus, Bull was Black Brangus (1900 lbs in thin condition, 14 yrs old). Notice the birth dates, whole crop was between 11/29 and 12/23, with exception of one on Jan 7th. Summary Analysis of Cow/Calf Performance Calves Sold On July 7, 2012

Calves were loaded up here and shipped 40 miles on Friday, for auction on Sat, so do doubt some shrinkage. Were taken directly off cows, no creep, no implants. Question for you experts. Is the difference between Bulls and Heifers always this much (135 lbs)? How much lighter do you think the bulls would have been if I had banded them as planned? Heifers brought $130, 132, 136. Bulls brought 125, 127, 135 per hundred. Comments please, and thanks. Tom

Today's Featured Article - New Life for an Old Allis - by Tyler Woods. My friend Jon, has an old '39 Allis Chalmers B. He thought it a marginal tractor that had long since served its time. She smoked terribly and never had much power but he couldn't afford another so he was limping along with what he had. Jon's Allis has a small front loader and though it doesn't carry much, it serves his needs. It was the hard starting and low power that made him think it was time to replace the old girl. Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
