If you change your oil too often, like I do between 3500 and 4000 miles, I think Frams, even their cheapest, are ok. My oil always comes out kind of pretty, like oil used to look new, kind of amberish. I've got 560k miles on my Chevy, still runs like a top, no smoke ever, and uses less that a 1/2 quart per change. Says a lot about modern engines and modern oils.
I've read quite a bit, and Frams seem to filter about as well as any, but they also seems to degrade if you leave them in too long. My truck tells me to change every 15,000 or so, but I just can't. I drive for a living so I'm changing every 2-3 weeks. Valvoline, or whatever decent stuff is on sale, and Fram seem to be working for me. I don't even know if they make tractor oil filters, I wouldn't put one in my tractor. Those don't get changed for years.
