ditto what mark ia said. when the regulator/rect. went on my late model 316 the batt light on the dash also came on. does yours have an onan or kohler? i will also add you can check the stator by unpluging the 2 outside wires on the voltage regulator and check each for continuity to ground if the stator is good then you should get no continutiy reading, if you get continuity then your stator or wiring has a short. for the onan motors the voltage regulator need at least 28v ac but i believe that upper 30's -40v is more common. if you have the onan p18g "a" the ac should read 28-41v and if you have the p218 "b or c" then you should see 28-57. another thing to look for is make sure your regulator is securely tightened to the sheet metal shroud on the motor or where ever its connected, a loose connection maybe causing you troubles. the voltage regulator from jd isn't cheap if i remember it was around $83, but if you search you can find them cheaper online or from onanoparts.com if you have an onan. good luck
