This year I have seen a lot of damage from chipmunks. They have tunneled under my driveway, numerous holes dug in my rock garden and flowers ruined.
I do not take pleasure in the elimination, or thinning, of these cute little animals, but enough is enough :!:
I have set rat traps and I have carfully placed poison but I do not want to harm other animals.
By chance I think I have found a safe and somewhat humane way to deal with these animals.
Just in the last two weeks, I have killed 9. This was accomplished by spraying "starting fluid" in the tunnel entrence while preventing their escape. After spraying, I cover the opening, and I have not observed the opening disturbed afterwards.
I just saw another one and when I see it go into a hole it will be "spray time" again.
Yes I know it works because I have snared many out of their holes.
