Hello all, working on my 230 clutch. (Tractor s/n 1336J – so a Rockford clutch) It has for some time been grinding when shifting into any gear. It does not settle out even if waiting a minute or so to change gears after depressing the clutch. The clutch rod adjustment is nearly bottomed out. The throw out bearing was getting about ¾” movement when the pedal was operated at that adjustment however the release levers were moving very little. There was a good quantity of metal dust when I pulled it apart which I now believe to be the pilot bushing. It appears to be nearly gone although everything else seems to be in good shape. I have the tractor split and the clutch disc and pressure plate out. I am getting ready to order necessary parts.
My first question is about the normal thickness of the clutch disc and pressure plate. I have a rough check of the clutch plate at 0.32 inches. I believe these were new several years back, but the tractor has had very little use. They look to have a lot of wear left in them. If they are serviceable, then I’ll need only some smaller parts to do the repairs.
Preparing for the worst, I web searched for individual parts or complete kits. I am using parts book TC-53B. That book (p 160) shows the pressure plate assembly as part no. 353 242 R92. I have not found anyone online that has that part number for the Farmall 230. I don’t want to spend a few hundred dollars for something that isn’t going to work.

At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
