Can't help you with the ppart number, but Hal is probably right about the gearing, etc.
Strange thing on my 240U... tach did not work when I got it, thought I would try to find a new cable some day. Must have been 6-8 months after I bought the tractor, fired it up one day, looked down and the tach was working... been working ever since.
