Hand Cranking

I have a 140, and it starts just great now that I have rebuilt the starter, and new ring gear. I was just wondering tho..I have tried time and again to start this tractor with the crank. I fits into the crank, but doesn't seem to be very steady, and it easily pops out if you let it get a little to the side. Is there something wrong with the crank in this tractor...is the crank hole too shallow or something?? I don't see for the life of me how anyone could start a tractor with the handle this loose. Yes, it still has the thing on the crank that the handle fits into..but I just don't get it. can someone tell me what I'm not seeing or doing right...gn
