Put a twist in the fan/blower belt...you know..like an 8. It'll blow the chaff off the kernals. In the throat..where the ear goes in, there should be a wing nut on a spring loaded follower. This adjusts the throat diameter and holds the ear just tight enough for the sheller nubs to spin the ear and begin stripping the kernels off.
Four old shellers similar to yours have followed me home over the years. Folks seem to be most gung-ho over the Deere shellers....I have a 1-B and it's not my favorite.....the New Idea is! My IHC is an all steel model and my wooden framed sheller is a Hocking Valley. The HV was a derelict when I got it....a real POS! The IHC wasn't much better. But, rebuilt they work fine. In practical terms, I don't see 2 cents difference in any of them. They all work as advertised. I put electric motors on all of mine.....the Deere came with a factory motor mount.
