I replaced the gasket on my 400. I did not think it was real tough. Just take your time. I found the most difficult part to be to get the bull gear off the axle shaft.(after removing PTO) I put a spacer between the two axle shafts and then unthreaded the bolt from one shaft, which then pushed the axle out. I was very fortunate that I did do it that way, because the inner bearing needed to be replaced.
I had thought about doing it as Jim mentioned, and had I done so, I would not have found the bad bearing. Which I thought may have been why it started to leak. Then again it was most likely to have been caused by years of water freezing in the rearend. Steve
