If you show serious foundational involvement, he should be finding a way to make it a sweet deal. Tell him you are participating in this forum. Also explain your intent to make it right and keep it in the family! Tell him you respect the price he sets and if it --can-- be met either in a lump, or over time, that you will do it. Tell him a bit of your finances if he does not know, so he can be fair. I'll add to the advice below. The oil pump is a built into the block. The tractor must be split to get at the pump cover. If the gears have worn into the bushing, and (thus) worn into the engine casting, it is tough to get it to pump well. Some parts (gear and shaft might be available, but I do not know where. Clearance the end plate with thin gaskets to .001 to .0005" when tightened. Prime the pickup by using assembly lube in the pump gears, and inject oil into the gallery until the oil filter is full with a small pump, or a pump oil can. Best of luck, JimN
