I was trying to get my persnickety bailer to work today, while solving a bizarre hydraulic problem (see previous post), when a more serious one arose.
I had the clutch in, the gear shift was in 3, and I gently went to put it into Low. Now, on this tractor, there is some internal drag, so shafts tend to spin and you have to gently nudge and wait for the internals to stop before getting it into low range.
As I'm doing this, in preparation for getting rolling, I hear the engine start to take on a knock! Kinda like a piston slap perhaps. Now, I was not putting any kind of load on the engine AT ALL when this happened. The clutch was depressed the whole time.
The knock appeared as I was meshing into low range and before releasing the clutch. Am I in deep doo-doo?
I'll try it out tomorrow- maybe this was all just a bad dream...
