of course IH has much better hydraulics than say ford of the same years. on the ford though, there's usually room for a crankshaft driven pump under the radiator, freeing your pto to be used as such. the pump would be mounted to the front framework, and the crankpulley and pump are coupled by a shaft with flexible couplers (like a woodsplitter). *I do not know of too many IH tractors in stock form with a decent space to mount a suitable front crank driven pump, hoses, and other hardware in that same manner. other ways to drive off crank such as a chain or belt do not offer as good of reliability as direct shaft, and limit the size of pump.
*someone posted a pic of their tractor with a massively long fan spacer recently; i would be willing to wager there may be room to mount a pump bewteen that crank and front end.
you should calculate what gpm and pressure you need for the results you want, and maybe add a lil more for reserve to help you find the right pump option. it may be that you will be fine with just the stock system or you may realize you need a massive pto driven pump, or anywhere in between. sometimes going to a dedicated loader is the best solution.
