Starter switch

When I got my M it had a starter foot button that came straight out. This is obviously not the correct part as when you depress the foot switch it does not come in contact with the button at the correct angle and shorts eventually. Am I explaining this correctly? I bought a replacement that the local shop got out of the IH OEM book and this was the same part they had listed. The correct button looks as though it should angle down so that the foot switch pushes it flush. Anyone know if this is correct?
