Cub Clutch-Grinds if in too far?

Looked at a cub loboy for a friend today. When the clutch is pushed too far it makes a grinding sound. It shifts fine when pushed in a little, and grinds when in too far. Is this an adjustment problem or is something wore out (or fixing to wear out)?
