450 hard starting

We have a 450 farmall that we have historically had a hard time starting...I realize it sits around too much and this automatically causes issues (weak battery and old gas)...but here is the part maybe you can help with...even when used regularly, when it will sometimes start on it own it does not start when you have the starter button pushed in cranking it over...it starts when you let off of the starter button?...that is really odd to me? Our other tractors start with the starter button pushed in cranking. What could it be...items we are thinking are maybe...weak coil? points? plug wires? This tractor is 12 volt...were 450's 12 volt from factory? It runs fine once started, but half the time you have to pull it to start it...frustrating. Appreciate the input! Reaver
