Billy, YES it does matter cuz if its swapped the genny has to be repolarized so you dont damage the Voltage Regulator and if it has an ammeter its leads need to be reversed so it dont read bass ackwards and likewise, if its a coil ignition its leads need switched also. HOWEVER if all is done right then it dont matter cuz it can still gen regardless if genny is repolarized and the starter direction stays the same. John T
