DO NOT try to take that plate off. It is the bearing retainer for the pinion shaft bearing, and it is notched out on the back side for the axle bull gear. If you try to pull it out, it will catch on the bull gear and probablly break. I did that exact thing once on a C, and it was a long time before I got back on good speaking terms with the owner, who was my father. Just find some way to destroy the seals from the outside, and pull out the pieces. One thing that sometimes works is to screw a dent puller into one side of the seal and beat it out .
