hey, what"s most likely happening with the tractor isn"t the battery at all provided it holds a charge. what you need to do to solve the problem completely is have the alternator tested at your local parts house (NAPA, Advance, ect.) That"s more than likely the trouble. Get a replacement alt. but get one of the GM 10si "one wire" ones or i know that advance auto carries a self exciting one the is truely one wire. the former one is about $33 and the latter is abour $50. the 10si should come with a wiring diagram in the box, but if it doesn"t, all ou do is run the bat. terminal to the starter or ammeter(if yours has one) and then put a jumper from the bat terminal on the alt to the smaller one one the side labeld with a 2 cast onto the case beside it. for the "1" terminal, there"s 2 ways to go. with the ammeter tahe a 100 ohm resistor, 1/2 watt resistor and go between it and the bat terminal on the back. Without the ammeter, you"ll need to pick up a panel mount light then run a wtre from the "1" terminal to a 100ohm resistor then to one of the 2 wires on the light. then hook up the other side of the light to a switched 12 volt source.

At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
