Those decompression linkages are notoriously touchy, so yeah, check that first. Since you're getting fuel out the stack(I assume diesel) it's likely you have everything bled out good. If you open the throttle a bit while running on gas then crack the bleeders on the injectors you get good fuel, right? Must be not sealing the cylinders when you switch over from gas. When you pull your valve cover, make sure that when it's on the diesel side there's clearance between the starting valves and the cam that operates them. Also make sure none of the starting valves are hung open. Might not hurt to double check valve clearance on all the valves while you have it off. A quick check to see if anything basic's wrong would be to pull the coil wire and crank it over in the gas mode. Then, while cranking, switch it to diesel. The extra compression should slow down the cranking speed by quite a bit.
