As the rest have said you never have voltage going into a mag. Every mag I rebuild has a paper in it that say I dont know what you know about mags but I have to asume you dont and never never hook up an external power source to a mag it will fry it internally the screw on the side is for a push pull type grounding switch only. . NOW you dont throw away a mag for a distributor either. Mags when rebuilt properly will give years of service without much matenence.and specially with a 6 volt starting system or crank start much better also. I can rebuild your mag for you for a bout the same price as a good distributor if you like just let me know. hope this helps JON
