Jon - I had the cam gear nut come off on my Super M. The nut broke the ends off several teeth on the cam, crank and governor idler gears on it's trip to the bottom of the gear cover. However the woodruff key in the gear hub kept the camshaft in time. The loose cam gear sliding about on the camshaft camshaft made an ominous rap every 1/2 revolution, and this chewed up the gear hub beyond repair. Carter & Gruenenwald had a new replacement cam gear - about $140 as I recall.
