Nope, like others have said, they did that to fit more tractors on the rail cars, trucks, boats, etc.. When they got to their destination, the mechanic would pull the wheels off, flip them over, and slide them back on the axles. Viola! The treads are pointed in the right direction. If you want dished-in-narrow tractors, up here in Rochester, NY, they use old Farmalls to plow the sidewalks in the city. Nope, not As and Cs, which would make sense on less than 4' wide sidewalks. They use Hs and Ms, and I think they even have a few 460s and/or 560s in the fleet. Wheels dished in, slid all the way in against the axles, with TIRE CHAINS. I don't think they have fenders. Yikes.
