886 not charging the battery

My 886 is not charging the battery. Had the alternator checked and it was OK putting out 15 volts. The gauge is showing the battery voltage and I checked with a VOM same reading.Can some one tell me how the 2 wires leaving the alternator get to the battery. Tried to trace but they are up under the cab. Thanks
