There will be a number cast into the top of the head where the rocker arm attaches. #8777 is the head for a distillate burning engine, and is low compression #6336 is the head for a kerosene burning engine, and is also low compression. #8060 is the head for a gasoline burning engine, and is high compression. The 8060 is the most desirable because you will get more power, but the 8060 will also be much more expensive. If you just want your M to be up and running then either of the low compression heads will work just fine, and for all practical purposes you won't notice much differance.
