Thanks for the suggestions and information.I have cleaned the carb.twice and fiddled with adjustments with not much success but will give that another try.I forgot to mention that the plugs were really fouledso I replacedthem with a hotter type of new Autolites.Checked appearance of the plugs yesterday.They are not fouled but are stained black instead of the light to chocolate brown color that's most desirable.I had set the valves cold at the recommended spec.and can hear them clattering.However am going to open the clearance to .020 as suggested and see what happens.About the only thing not done is rebushing the distributer, check valve spring tension and inspect the timing gears.Thanks for the picture.I had suspected that the filter might be behind the plate as shown. Appreciate your help.Ol Chief
