I have the operators, tractor and power unit manual, an IT manual, and a parts book. I try to find a factory service manual and a parts book for everything that I have to work on regularly or overhaul. The IH tractor and power unit manual (CHS-69) does a good job on the motor, but is very weak on the transmission. On setting up the differential, they go over the top. The IT manual does a good job with lots of systems (including the transmission), but they assume that you know your way around machinery. The parts book is very handy for finding parts, listing the parts in an assembly, and showing how the parts go together. Also, the guys at the parts counter seem more helpful when you have a part number. The operators manual is mostly about set up and maintenence, which can prevent problems.
