What it may be is a TA that badly needs adjustment, which is going to be trashed if you keep running it as is. As has been observed by Hugh and others many times on this board, these old TAs work well and last a long time if you keep them properly adjusted and don't freewheel in low range - however, they can be destroyed quickly if not operated and/or adjusted properly. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be very many people who know how to do the adjustment properly; of those I've seen at auctions, probably 75 percent or more have obviously been improperly adjusted. What I'd seriously suggest that you do is park it until you get the Operators Manual (Binder Books) which will tell you in great detail how to do the adjustment. But it's your tractor. Good luck.
