I have changed over many of H"s and M"s to 12 volt, but i have the genarator made into a 27 amp 12 volt and replace the reg with a 12 volt reg. and as far as the ground it is the way that you want to have it set up pos. or neg i prefer the neg . ground and change the lite bulbs to 12 volt that way you can use the stock lites . A new wiring can be bought from Case IH and since it is only three wires from the amp gauge and the light switch box you can make it yourself the stock color code is one black wire to the mag in 14 gauge on blue wire of 14 gauge to the field of genarator and one yellow wire of your choise of 12 gauge 0r 10 gauge to the armature posts on the regulator that is mounted on the genarator then make up some short wires from the reg. to the genarator . You can put the wires in that plastic loom and make it look nice or you can spend some big bucks for a roll of the expandabl loom like i use.
