Sometimes these old tractors have very low oil pressure, especially when hot. Mine ran in the red when hat. I rebuilt the oil pump and it's much better. I recommend this if your going to use it hard. You need to remove the oil pan (and the verticle plate behind it). Replace the bottom plate of the oil pump ($100 or so) at the IH dealer. Don't forget a new oil pan gasket. You can vary the rear wheel space by "dishing" the wheel hub in or out. Also the wheels can be bolted to the inside or utside of the hub. The wheels (and tires) can be swapped side to side to as the mounting lugs are offset on the wheel. Left and right axle should be the same length. You may be OK with a 5' mower in light going but you'll need an overrunning clutch/PTO adaptor. Good luck. DAve.
