I have an IH 574 diesel with a 2200 loader and I'm wondering if I run it at too low an RPM. It seems to handle anything I can throw at it at 1200. Baling with a NH 66, 5' hogging grass and brush, hauling 2'x 14' Hemlock logs. I'll run it at 1500 or better when using the loader, but that is primarily to coax performance from the hydraulic system. I have a tendency to run at a lower RPM and a higher gear. Never run a diesel tractor before, Just tired gassers; JD B, Farmall letter and number series. My JD 420 dozer seems too crave the throttle, but this 574 does not. So, am I hurting the machine, being stingy with the diesel fuel, or demonstrating good operator instincts, (for once)!?
